Are you looking for a simpler and cheaper solution than Rossum? Then, you’ve come to the right place!
Rossum is an intelligent document processing tool designed to extract data from large volumes of documents. However, the software may be too complex for small businesses.
Let’s take a look at how Parseur can be the best alternative to Rossum.

How does Rossum work?
Rossum is a document processing platform developed to process invoices. It uses an AI engine to automate data extraction from PDF invoices.
Generic engine
Rossum has various generic engines that are pre-trained to process a variety of documents:
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Chinese invoices
- Certificates of analysis
The generic engine has predefined fields which can be edited or deleted.

You can also choose the level of document automation for your PDF files.
Parsing in different languages
As a cloud-native document processing tool, Rossum was fairly good in our tests at recognizing documents in different languages.

Dedicated engine
They also offer the option to set up a custom AI engine, called the Dedicated Engine, as a paid feature. This engine can be trained to parse document types other than the ones supported by their generic engine.
However, as you can see in the image below, the process takes some time and requires manual data review from Rossum’s engineers. This is because AI models need a lot of complex training.

Focused on the accounting industry
Rossum is mainly focused on the financial services industry. The platform is perfect for large accounting departments that have to process huge amounts of invoices and receipts regularly.
Email parsing
During our tests, we couldn't find an option to parse email content directly. Rossum can parse email attachments, but not native email data.
Pricing
Pricing plans are not public. If you want to know about the cost, you’ll have to complete a pricing request form first.
This shows that Rossum is more enterprise-focused as your pricing will be customized depending on the volume of documents you are receiving and the features that you need.
Overall, Rossum is a very solid PDF parsing solution but, it requires a learning curve as it is an advanced product. Thus, this may not be suitable for most startups and SMBs.
Parseur: The best Rossum alternative in 2023
Parseur is a powerful OCR software that automates data extraction from PDFs and emails. The PDF parser is a simple, but advanced point-and-click solution that automates manual data entry processes.
Automatic Layout Detection
Parseur is integrated with machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP), which enables it to pick the right template whenever a new PDF file is sent to the mailbox.
There are no limits to the number of templates and mailboxes you can create. And, a custom OCR template is created with parsing rules.
Built-in library of templates for MANY industries
Compared to Rossum, Parseur is built to parse documents for many different use cases. We have pre-made templates for:
Zonal OCR
Since AI OCR is like a black box, it requires many manual data checks and validation to process data. To eliminate manual interventions, Parseur uses Zonal OCR that extracts data from specific locations and doesn’t require any human input.
Dynamic OCR
We understand that Zonal OCR may have its own challenges, like for example Zonal OCR cannot capture data that moves dynamically from document to document.
Parseur introduced Dynamic OCR - an advanced technology that extracts any variable data fields. For table parsing, you can also teach Parseur when the table starts and ends.

Email parsing
Parseur has an advanced email parser that can parse any email client, including Gmail, Outlook, or Exchange. The email parsing tool is suitable for extracting data from high volumes of emails. You can send email data to Excel, Google Sheets or any other tools.
Send data to 1000+ applications through Zapier, Make & Power Automate
You can download the parsed data in CSV, XLS, or JSON format. Data can be exported in real-time to any other tool using Parseur's native integrations (Zapier, Make, and Power Automate).
Pricing
Parseur offers a simple pricing solution based on the number of pages processed. It starts with a free plan with all features available, and you pay as the number of documents increases. For example, for 1000 pages the price is only $99, which is less than most other document processing platforms.
