What is in the sample invoice

The invoice is a 2-page scanned PDF from a fictional Swedish packaging supplier, Lindqvist Packaging AB, to a fictional German food factory, Northgate Food Products GmbH. It contains:

  • Supplier details: company name, logo, address, phone, email, registration number and VAT ID
  • Customer details: billing address and VAT ID
  • Invoice details: invoice number, invoice date, customer number, purchase order number, delivery notes and delivery date
  • Line items: 18 rows with position, article number, description, quantity, unit, unit price and amount
  • Totals: net total, VAT at 0 % under the EU reverse charge rule and a total of EUR 45,078.62
  • Payment details: payment terms, bank name, IBAN and BIC

Why this invoice is a good test

Real invoices are rarely clean. This sample has the problems that make extraction hard:

  • It is a scan, not a digital PDF. Each page is an image, so your tool must read the text with OCR.
  • The table runs over 2 pages. The first page ends with a total carried forward to the next one. Your tool must join the rows into one table and not count the carried total as a line item.
  • There is noise on top of the data. A rubber stamp, an approval stamp with handwritten fields and a pen note sit on top of the printed text.
  • Some values are tricky. Unit prices have 4 decimals, the VAT is 0 % with a reverse charge note, and the bank details are only in the page footer.
