Document processing in VS Code

Add Parseur's MCP server to VS Code to create mailboxes, upload documents from your workspace and read the extracted data in GitHub Copilot agent mode.

Step 1

Connect the MCP server

  1. 1 Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server.
  2. 2 Choose HTTP, enter the server URL and name the server parseur.
  3. 3 Choose where to save it, then sign in to Parseur in your browser and approve access.

Step 2

Get files to the agent

Ask Copilot to process a file in your workspace. It creates an upload link, uploads the file to the right Parseur mailbox itself, then reads the extracted data.

  • Each upload link works for one upload, which can hold several files, and expires after 60 minutes by default.
  • Files at a public URL, and email text pasted into the chat, need no upload link.
  • Every Parseur mailbox has its own email address, so you can also forward documents to it.

Try these prompts

Paste one into the chat and let the agent pick the tools.

Use Parseur to upload the PDFs in ./invoices to my invoices mailbox and show me what was extracted.
Create a Parseur mailbox for purchase orders that extracts the PO number, supplier, date and line items.
Download my Parseur invoices mailbox as CSV and write a script that imports it into our database.

Check it works

The agent lists your Parseur mailboxes. No credits are used.

Yes. Copilot creates an upload link and uploads the file itself, then reads the extracted data. Each link works for one upload and expires after 60 minutes by default. Files at a public URL need no upload link.

No. Documents sent from VS Code use the same page credits as documents sent any other way. The free plan includes 20 pages a month. See Parseur pricing.

Yes. Add Parseur under servers in .vscode/mcp.json, with "type": "http" and https://api.parseur.com/mcp as the url. VS Code asks you to sign in to Parseur the first time it connects.

Copilot only sees the tools your Parseur role allows. For example, a role that cannot delete mailboxes hides the delete tools. An account admin can change your role in Parseur. You can also turn tools on or off in Copilot's tool list.
